Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said a renaissance of women has now emerged through their successful participation in every sector of Bangladesh.
"There is no opportunity to ignore women as they are now advancing to every sector up to the rural level," she said, addressing her party's nomination seekers for women’s reserved seats in parliament at her official residence, Ganabhaban.
Application from around 1,553 women for 48 reserved seats has proved to be a renaissance in women's development in Bangladesh, the premier said.
In this regard, she called on applicants not to be frustrated if they do not get nominations, asking all to work for the country and the people with motherly affection.
Sheikh Hasina, also president of the ruling Awami League, urged the nomination seekers to think of Bangladesh as their mother and its people as their near and dear ones.
"I myself want to build the country with motherly affection," she said.
The prime minister reminded the applicants that no one can give “you opportunities, you will have to create your own chances.”
"So the aspiration of leadership will never be erased even if some do not get nominations. Work for the people at the grassroots and win their confidence and trust to pave the way to fulfilling your target," she said.
The premier asked the applicants to pull up the women who are lagging behind.
She also asked women leaders and workers of the Awami League to work to strengthen her party and its front and associate bodies at the grassroots.
