The front rows of audience seating were dominated by women supporters and activists of the Awami League wearing colourful sarees and caps and holding the party flag as well as the national flag.

While talking to Dhaka Tribune, Asma Akter, a grassroots Awami League activist of Barisal, said: “This is the first time we are going to see Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after the inauguration of the Padma Bridge.”

“We joined this rally to express our gratitude to Sheikh Hasina as she opened the Padma Bridge and many more development projects in Barisal,” said Asma.
