The movement of vehicles is normal in most areas of the capital amid the ninth phase of the nationwide 48-hour blockade called by BNP and like-minded parties, which began on Sunday morning.
The latest blockade started at 6am and will end at 6am on Tuesday to mount pressure on the Awami League government to quit power and hold the next general election under a non-partisan administration.
On Sunday morning, the presence of vehicles was typical in Mirpur, Shewrapara, Agargaon, Bijoy Sarani, Dhanmondi, Gabtoli, Karwan Bazar, Shahbag, Paltan areas of the capital like any other day.
Since morning, private cars were seen plying the roads, and no picketing was reported.
Besides, Awami League leaders and activists were not seen on the streets.
Ratri Kabir, an office goer, said: “I go to the office on a bike every day using a ride-sharing app. In the early days of the strike, I could not find any rider. I am still waiting for my rider.”
Some bus drivers and helpers in the Mohammadpur bus stand area said that they have been operating buses normally since morning. There was no obstacle anywhere.
The number of passengers on the bus stands was also normal. Markets, offices and educational institutions are open like any other day.
However, police are on high alert in the capital amid the blockade. The presence of police patrol cars was seen on important roads and intersections.
Police presence was observed in front of the central office of BNP in Naya Paltan.
