Actor Shakil Khan is now set to contest as an independent candidate from the Bagerhat-3 (Mongla-Rampal) constituency, after not getting picked by Awami League.
His nephew Shahriar Nazim collected the nomination papers on his behalf from the district returning officer on Monday afternoon.
Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Khalid Hossain said five candidates have collected nomination papers for the four seats of the district till 5pm on Monday.
Shakil Khan is best known for acting in “Amar Ghor Amar Behest”, “Maa Jokhon Bicharok” and many other hits.
The ruling Awami League has announced candidates for 298 constituencies for the upcoming 12th national parliamentary election.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the names of the candidates at a press conference at the party's headquarters in the capital's Bangabandhu Avenue on Sunday.
