  • Syed AK Ekramuzzaman collected nomination form for upcoming polls
  • ‘Involved in activities against party discipline’
Update : 28 Nov 2023, 12:05 PM

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled Chairperson's Advisory Council Member Syed AK Ekramuzzaman and National Executive Committee Member Shah Md Abu Zafar.

The matter was confirmed in a statement issued by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Tuesday morning.

According to the statement, the two leaders were expelled from all positions, including primary membership in the party, based on allegations of involvement in activities against party discipline.

Notably, the ousted advisor Syed AK Ekramuzzaman is contesting as an independent candidate in the Brahmanbaria-1 constituency in the 12th national parliamentary election.

Another expelled BNP leader Shah Md Abu Zafar joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Movement (BNM) on November 20. He serves as the party's acting chairman.

BNP has already rejected the schedule for the 12th parliamentary election. It considers collecting nomination papers a "violation of party's discipline."
