Gano Forum and Bangladesh People's Party (BPP) will not participate in the 12th national parliamentary election.
Gano Forum and Bangladesh People's Party, in a joint meeting on Saturday, decided not to participate in the upcoming polls.
The meeting was chaired by Gano Forum President Mostafa Mohsin Montu.
The leaders of the two parties said that the “puppet Election Commission” has pushed the country towards disaster by announcing the so-called election schedule in accordance with the conspiracy of the ruling government to seize power, ignoring public wishes and the opinions of pro-democracy political parties.
They said the Gano Forum and Bangladesh People's Party will continue their mass movement on the streets demanding the cancellation of illegal schedules, dissolution of parliament and resignation of the Sheikh Hasina government to implement the demands of the people.
The 12th national parliamentary election will be held on January 7, 2024.
The CEC announced the election schedule on November 15.
The announcement came amid the BNP's 48-hour blockade, which aimed to mount pressure on the Awami League government to resign and make way for the election to be held under a non-partisan administration.
