The ruling Awami League has chosen Advocate Afjal Hossain to contest the upcoming by-elections to Patuakhali-1.
The decision came up after a meeting of the party’s parliamentary nomination board, chaired by party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on Monday.
Afjal Hossain is the organizing secretary of Awami League central committee.
Previously, he served as the information secretary of Awami league for three consecutive terms.
The by-election to the Patuakhali-1 constituency will be held on November 26.
Candidates will be able to submit their nomination papers till November 1, while the last date to withdraw them is November 9.
The constituency was declared vacant following the death of lawmaker Shahjahan Miah on October 21.
