Two Jatiya Party (JaPa) leaders who are seeking nomination from Jamalpur-5 and Jamalpur-2 for the upcoming national parliamentary elections have reportedly received death threats.
They are Jatiya Party presidium member Mostafa Al Mahmud (Jamalpur-2) and central committee member Anwar Hossain (Jamalpur-5).
Anwar Hossain made a general diary (GD) with Jamalpur Sadar police station mentioning the names of four people in connection with the incident on Friday around 9pm.
The accused are Md Zakir Hossain Khan, 50, son of Chand Mia of Langal Jora area, Kazi Khokon, 55, Akram Hossain, 52 of Bania Bazar area and Abdul Malek, 45, of Chhonkanda village of Jamalpur sadar upazila, according to the GD.
The accused came live from a Facebook ID named Kazi Khokon on Wednesday around 3:30pm and threatened to kill the two nomination seekers.
Anwar Hossain said that he has filed a GD at the police station seeking legal steps for threatening to kill him.
Mostafa Al Mahmud said that the accused used various defamatory and offensive words against them on Facebook Live.
“At one stage they threatened to kill both of us. We are very embarrassed about this,” he said.
Confirming the matter, Jamalpur Sadar Police Station OC Kazi Shahnewaz said that police started investigating the matter.
