Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday came down heavily on BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for calling the government illegal.
“If the government is illegal, then why do they appeal to it for the release of their party chief Begum Khaleda Zia?” he questioned while addressing a grand rally of Bangladesh Krishak League at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister castigated BNP's issuance of a 48-hour ultimatum saying the time has come for BNP politics to go to “graveyard”.
"BNP gave an ultimatum that it would send Awami League to the graveyard within 48 hours. Time is over for them. BNP's ultimatum is a fake one. Now the time has come for BNP's politics to go to the graveyard," he said.
The minister said if the BNP tries to block roads and carry out arson attacks and any subversive activities in the name of any movement, they will be dealt with accordingly.
Pointing out that the BNP posed risks to the country, its democracy, voting rights, and the spirit of independence and the Liberation War, he remarked that the BNP did not want the 1971’s Bangladesh and it wanted to turn Bangladesh a safe haven.
Claiming that Bangladesh would plunge into darkness if the BNP came to power, Obaidul Quader said: "Sheikh Hasina has brought Bangladesh from darkness to light. We will not let Bangladesh fall into the wrong hands again and we will not let it return to darkness."
Calling on the party leaders and workers to be prepared, the general secretary of Awami League said: "A tough game is ahead. November is coming, followed by December, then January. The final matches will take place then. Get ready.”
“Our leader is coming, she will call everyone to the streets. When the calls come, everyone must take to the streets," he added.
