Awami League General Secretary and Road, Transport, and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that the US visa policy should be applied to BNP for their roadblock programs in Dhaka.
“Awami League held a rally at Baitul Mukarram, and BNP did the same at Naya Paltan, but the following day, BNP called for roadblock programs. Sitting on the road and blocking traffic is not the kind of politics we support,” Quader said while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Monday afternoon.
The ruling party's general secretary added: “Awami League always seeks a peaceful environment before and after elections. We want elections without conflict. Those who want elections should not incite conflict.”
“BNP's Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman is supporting attacks on police and people. They want to oust Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at any cost,” added Quader.
Responding to a question, Quader clarified: ”There is no counter program by Awami League against BNP's programs.”
“Awami League will remain vigilant until the elections. The police will not remain passive in case of any conflict. Awami League leaders and activists will support if the police fail to protect people's lives and property,” he added.
Quader also stated that there is no record of Awami League attacking any protest rally of the BNP.
