Condemning the prime minister’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy’s recent statement, the main opposition BNP suspects a conspiracy in the next general elections.
“Sajeeb Wazed Joy’s statement about the next election is untrue, dishonest and politically motivated. Such a statement indicates a conspiracy regarding the next elections. We harshly condemned such statement,” Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, BNP’s joint secretary general told journalists at a press briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters in Dhaka.
Criticising Joy for making such a statement, BNP said it implied the elections might be rigged and that it was a blue-print for a conspiracy.
“Joy’s statement on Tarique Rahman is untrue, false, irresponsible and symptom of madness. We harshly condemned such statement,” he said.
On July 23 during an Iftar party, Joy said he had information the Awami League (AL) would return to power in the next general elections.
He also blamed BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman to try to kill his mother and AL chief Sheikh Hasina.
Rizvi said implications Tarique Rahman was involved in the August 21 grenade attack was part of a planned conspiracy.
He said: “August 21 grenade attack was a part of a local and international conspiracy to bring the incumbent ruler to power. The incident occurred just to put the then BNP government in an awkward position and Tarique Rahman was the main target of that conspiracy.”
Regarding Joy’s assertion he had information AL would return to power, Rizvi said: “By saying this, Joy has ignored millions of peoples’ demand for holding elections under a non-partisan interim government. BNP is waging a movement for that information because that information is the information of vote rigging and blue-print for the polls.”
The BNP leader said Jubo League and Chhatra League are the main sources of such information, and that Joy is surrounded by sycophants.
“If Sajeeb Wazed Joy reads the writing on the wall, sees the surveys and reports he would not mock millions of voters by spreading conspiratory and misleading information,” he said.
Rizvi said Joy did not share anything new in his speech.
“He did not give any direction to change the prevailing political situation instead he followed his predecessors and attacked the opposition by bringing fabricated allegations against the opposition.”
