The Sharif Nurul Ambia-led faction of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) has been registered as a political party under the name of Bangladesh Jasad on the orders of the High Court.

The Election Commission Secretariat issued a notification in this regard on Monday.

Sharif Nurul Ambia, president of Jasad, said: "On the order of the court, we have been registered under the name of Bangladesh Jasad. The party's symbol is a motor vehicle (car)."

EC Deputy Secretary Abdul Halim Khan said that the party's registration and symbols have been given as per the court's instructions. The notification in this regard has been published in the form of gazette.

As this new party got registered before the 12th parliamentary elections, the total number of registered parties stood at 42.

Bangladesh Jasad tried to register before the 11th parliamentary elections but failed. This time they tried to get registration with “elephant” symbol, but in the end, they got “motor vehicle”.

Jasad was split for the first time when ASM Abdur Rab formed a new party in 2002; later, Ambia formed the other faction in 2016 over differences with former minister and current lawmaker Hasanul Haq Inu.

The convening committee of Jasad was formed on October 31, 1972, and its 105-member central committee got shape in a council held on December 22.

The committee was led by Md Abdul Jalil and ASM Abdur Rab.
