Rangpur city polls: Journalists not allowed in polling booths for over 10 minutes

No more than two journalists will be allowed to enter polling booths in this election

The Election Commission has issued two guidelines for journalists for the upcoming Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) elections, slated to be held on Tuesday.

Not more than two journalists will be allowed to enter the polling booths in this election.

Besides, No journalist will be allowed to stay in the polling booths for more than 10 minutes.

Election Commission Joint Secretary (Director-Public Relations) SM Asaduzzaman announced the information on Saturday morning.

A total of 270 candidates are contesting the Rangpur city polls. 

Among them, nine candidates are vying for the mayor post, 192 for the post of general councillor and 69 for the post of reserved councillor.

The mayor candidates are Awami League-nominated Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia, Jatiya Party's Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, Awami League rebel candidate Latifur Rahman Milon, Shafiar Rahman of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Inu), Amiruzzaman Pial of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Touhidur Rahman Mondal Raju of Khelafat Majlish, Khorshed Alam Khokan of Jaker Party, Abu Raihan of Bangladesh Congress and independent candidate Mehdi Hasan.

The RpCC elections will be held at 229 polling centres using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from 8am to 4pm on Tuesday.

Every polling station will be monitored through CCTV cameras.

As many as 426,469 voters, including 212,302 men and 214,167 women, will exercise their voting rights in the RpCC elections.
