Security beefed up at Shahbagh for Awami League council

Over 100,000 leaders and activists of Awami League expected to attend party’s 22nd national council

Law enforcement agencies have taken foolproof security measures at Shahbagh and adjoining areas as well as the entire city to avoid unpleasant incidents during the 22nd national council of Awami League at Suhrawardy Udyan on Saturday.

More than 100,000 of the ruling party are expected to gather at the conference.

The members of various security forces have intensified their activities at Shahbagh intersection, Doel Chattar, Matsya Bhaban intersection and in the High Court area to maintain law and order.

They are working to ensure security on the roads leading to the rally venue, Suhrawardy Udyan.

Party activists were gathering in the Shahbagh area from Saturday morning. 

The entrances opened at 7am; from then on, councillors and delegates started standing in line and entering the venue. 

Everyone has to go through security checks while entering the conference venue.

Regarding overall security, DMP Joint Commissioner (Operations) Biplab Kumar Sarkar told Bangla Tribune that the security system has been strengthened in coordination with all the law enforcement agencies. 

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the council by releasing pigeons at 10:30am.
