Chunnu: No scope for JaPa leaders to sit with Raushan

Currently, JaPa is no longer with the government and the party is moving forward independently, Chunnu claimed.

Brushing aside Raushan Ershad's call for a dialogue, Jatiya Party (JaPa) Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu on Monday said that there is no scope for such talks as the leaders are favouring Chairman GM Quader in the ongoing power tussle within the party.

He categorically said that the presidium members, 77 committees of 64 districts and the executive committee of JaPa are all in favor of GM Quader.

The JaPa leader proposed the introduction of proportional representation in the general elections, a concept meaning that the number of parliamentary seats won by a party is proportionate to the number of votes it received.

Chunnu, a JaPa lawmaker and also former state minister, was addressing as the chief guest the bi-annual conference of Satkhira district unit of his party on Monday.

Chunnu alleged that both the BNP and the Awami League had conspired to destroy JaPa.

Currently, JaPa is no longer with the government and the party is moving forward independently, Chunnu claimed.

He urged the people to cast their votes for the party in the next elections.

On Sunday, Raushan, also the leader of the opposition in parliament, told the media that she wanted to see a united JaPa through discussions among the top leaders of the party.

“The countrymen want changes for development and peace in Bangladesh. It can only be provided by the Jatiya Party,” she said upon returning to Bangladesh after a five-month medical treatment in Thailand.

Raushon returned home at a time when the party is divided over her previous call for holding a council and Moshiur Rahman Ranga removed from the party posts.

The party recently also handed over a letter to Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury requesting her to recognize GM Quader as leader of the opposition in Parliament.
