A Mymensingh court has filed a case against former opposition leader Raushan Ershad and former Mymensingh deputy commissioner Mustakim Billah Faruqui.

Khaleduzzaman Parvez Bulbul filed the case with the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate AKM Rowshan Jahan on Wednesday.

The court ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case.

Bulbul was a Bangladesh National Awami Party (NAP) candidate in the Mymensingh-4 (Sadar) constituency during the 10th National Parliamentary elections. He initiated the case.

According to the case statement, the party symbol “Kure Ghar” was fixed for contesting as a candidate in the Jatiya Sangsad election on December 14, 2013. Later that evening, around 7:30pm, about 10-12 unknown individuals in plain clothes forcibly took the plaintiff from his home against his will, intimidating him to the office of the Returning Officer and the deputy commissioner.

Later, under the instigation of the primary accused Raushan Ershad and the second accused, the then deputy commissioner and Returning Officer Mustakim Billah Faruqui, he was illegally detained in their office and coerced into withdrawing his nomination papers under the threat of death.

Along with Raushan Ershad and the former deputy commissioner, 12 unknown individuals are also named as defendants in the case. The court has taken up the case and assigned it to the PBI for investigation.

Confirming the case details, Mymensingh court inspector Md Mostasinur Rahman said that the court had accepted the case and directed the PBI to investigate.
