Reacting to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan's comment that the government will impose several conditions before letting BNP enter Suhrawardy Udyan for their December 10 rally in Dhaka, the party men said they will only hold the rally in Naya Paltan.
BNP media cell Member Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury told reporters on Thursday that BNP never sought permission to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.
Meanwhile, senior BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Thursday said their party has already sought permission from the concerned authorities for holding the Dhaka rally at Naya Paltan on December 10.
“The rally on December 10 will be held at the venue we decided on. We will not wait for permission as we will arrange the rally whether we're given permission or not,” he said.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Thursday said BNP will get permission to hold its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan with few conditions.
"We informed the DMP commissioner that they (BNP) will get permission for holding the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan," he said at a function at Sadar Ghat in the capital.
Kamal added: "BNP is a political party. They have the right to do politics. If BNP does constructive politics in a systemic way, we will have nothing to say here. But I think, if BNP violets political courtesy or tries to do any other things, then we will have an objection."
The minister said the government did not forbid them to hold political programs.
"BNP is holding programs across the country. We did not forbid them for Dhaka, too. We only tell them about our concerns," he said.
BNP is saying some 3 million people will gather at the Dhaka rally. "Where will the people stay? It seems BNP will immobilize the entire Dhaka city," he said.
