Police claim there is a warrant against Bachchu Mia's teenage son, not Bachchu Mia

Ahead of BNP's divisional mass rally in Faridpur, police have started conducting raids at the houses of local BNP leaders and activists.

In a bizarre incident, police also conducted a raid in the house of a BNP leader who died 12 years ago in 2010.

The BNP rally is scheduled to be held on Saturday.

Bachchu Mia, former president of BNP's Faridpur city unit, died on August 28, in 2010. He was also a ward commissioner of 3 no ward in Faridpur municipality.

However, Police conducted the raid in his house no 113 of Miyapara road in West Khabashpur Mohalla area of the city around 11pm on Tuesday.

BNP leaders held a press conference on Wednesday at an auditorium of Faridpur Press Club bringing allegations of police harassment ahead of the rally.

Meanwhile, Bachchu Miah's wife Mousumi Ali went to Faridpur sadar police station on Wednesday morning to submit her husband's death certificate.

Mousumi Ali said that two police officials raided their house on Tuesday night.

Policemen said they came from Dhaka and kept asking to open the door.

They also called out her husband's name asking him to come out, saying they are here to pick him up, she said.

"When they kept pushing at the door, I told them to go to the graveyard, if they wanted to pick him up. He is not alive anymore," she added.

Mousumi further said the police kept insisting her to open the door and when she refused.

Later, policemen allegedly said "We know how to open the door."

"I told them that we can't open the door at this hour. You have to wait until morning,” she further added.

However, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station MA Jalil told reporters that there was a warrant against Bachchu Mia's teenage son and not Bachchu Mia.

"The warrant obtained from court may have factual errors. We are checking it," added the OC.
