The commission, however,  will not register any party whose constitution is in conflict with Bangladesh’s

Election Commissioner (EC) Md Alamgir said any party consisting of members of Jamaat-e-Islami  can get registration from the commission under a different name by fulfilling requirements.

He said: “If no one of the Jamaat is a war criminal and if their constitution is not in contradiction with Bangladesh's constitution, then there is no bar to their getting registered under a different name by fulfilling conditions.”

The EC was speaking to reporters at Agargaon Nirbachan Bhaban on Wednesday afternoon.

Stating that there is no opportunity to register a political party in the name of Jamaat-e-Islami, he recalled that the registration of the Jamaat had been cancelled on court orders.

If any party wants to be registered, it has to register again, added Alamgir.

He made it clear that the commission will not register any party whose constitution is in conflict with Bangladesh's.

A new entity named Bangladesh Development Party has applied for registration as a political party of Bangladesh.

The application form, signed by the party's General Secretary Md Kazi Nizamul Haque, was submitted to the Election Commission on Wednesday afternoon.

The party claimed in the application that it has fulfilled all conditions of registration.

The party reportedly includes individuals who were once in leadership positions of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh.

However, the party leaders denied having any connection with the Jamaat.
