Awami League lawmaker for Barisal-4 constituency Pankaj Nath has been stripped of all party posts over allegations of violating party discipline.
Pankaj Nath was informed of his dismissal through a letter signed by Awami League Office Secretary Biplab Barua on Sunday.
A copy of the letter was sent to Pankaj Nath, who sat on the Awami League’s Barisal unit advisory council, Barisal-1 MP and the party’s Barisal unit President Abul Hasanat Abdullah and Barisal district unit General Secretary Talukdar Md Yunus.
The dismissal letter stated that the Executive Council of Awami League has relieved Pankaj from all party posts for breaching institutional discipline.
He has also been asked to respond to the allegations within 15 days.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, the ruling party lawmaker said that he has received the letter and will respond to it in due time.
The ruling party’s Barisal district unit General Secretary Talukdar Md Yunus also said that they received the letter of dismissal.
According to him, allegations of killing, torturing, and paralyzing party leaders and workers have been leveled against Pankaj.
He has also been accused of harassing leaders and activists through false cases and carrying out atrocities against the local leaders by dividing the party in Mehendiganj and creating his own circle to establish his authority.
In view of these allegations, the Central Executive Committee has decided to strip him of all party posts.
