As many as three cases have been filed against 400 people in connection with the clash between the activists of BNP and police in Banskhali upazila of Chittagong which left 45 injured.
Banskhali Thana police filed the cases on Friday night, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamal Uddin.
Former president of Chittagong South district unit BNP and former minister Zafarul Islam Chowdhury, South district unit BNP Convener Abu Sufian and its Member Secretary Mostak Ahmed have named 66 people in the cases while more than 300-400 unnamed leaders and activists of the BNP were also sued.
The OC said that police have so far arrested six people in this connection.
Kamal Uddin told BSS that 66 people were named after watching the CCTV footage and three cases were filed against another 300-400 people for assault on police, obstruction of government work and human traffic and cocktail explosion.
Earlier on Friday afternoon, BNP took out a procession and lodged this clash in front of Kalipur Ezarul Hoque High School premises at Banskhali upazila.
Banshkhali upazila and municipality units of BNP organized the protest rally as part of their countrywide program against the price hike of essential commodities, fuel and transport fares, unbearable load shedding and the killing of their two leaders in Bhola.
At one stage, police obstructed them when they tried to stage demonstrations at Chittagong Banskhali road of Kalipur point around 3pm.
The leaders and activists pelted brickbats targeting police, prompting them to blank fire and lobbed tear gas shells, triggering a clash that left at least 45 people injured, police said.
Over 15 policemen including OC Kamal Uddin and Sub-Inspector (SI) were injured, said Inspector (Investigation) SM Arifur Rahman of Banskhali police station.
