Legendary politician Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani's daughter Mahmuda Khanam Bhashani has staged a sit-in in Tangail, protesting against the irregularities and vote rigging in the third municipality elections.
Mahmuda Khanam is the mother of BNP-backed mayoral candidate Mahmudul Haq Sanu who contested in the Sadar municipality polls.

Accompanied by her son, Mahmuda held the sit-in on the Shaheed Minar premises in the town from 7:30pm on Sunday. She stayed there more than an hour.
She alleged: "The polls were not fair. Awami League men were involved in vote rigging. They drove the agents of my son out of polling centres."
Demanding cancellation of the polls, Mahmuda urged the Election Commission to hold a re-election of the Sadar municipality.

In Tangail, Awami League-backed aspirants won in all five municipality elections.
On January 30, the third phase election to 62 municipalities across Bangladesh was held amid sporadic violence, clashes between opposing activists, and boycotts by candidates on allegation of various irregularities and vote rigging.
Mostly Awami League candidates and rebels clinched the victories in the elections.
