Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said BNP lawmakers tearing up a copy of the budget in front of the National Parliament, in the name of protest, amounts to contempt of parliament.

The road, transport, and bridges minister made the comment at a regular briefing at his government residence on Thursday afternoon.

“BNP lawmakers’ protest amounts to breaking their oath to parliament,” Quader said, adding: “We strongly condemn this type of protest.”

Quader also claimed that BNP lawmakers did not perform a responsible role during the pandemic time.

“BNP wanted no budget in this fiscal year amid coronavirus. They want to see Bangladesh in a position without a financial budget. They wished to make people disappointed but we are able to transmit the light of hope to the people during the pandemic,” told Quader.

Quader also said that this year’s budget is a combination of life and livelihood. This budget is made to overcome the financial crisis due to the coronavirus in Bangladesh.

He also expressed thanks to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal for giving such a “people-oriented” budget.
