Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said that BNP’s declaration of Vision 2030 is a good sign for Bangladesh, as it shows that political parties were thinking about the country’s development.
"I am yet to read BNP’s Vision 2030, but it is good for the country that political parties are thinking about our economy," Muhith said at a pre-budget meeting with the editors of print and electronic news outlets on Thursday.
The comment comes in the wake of Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader describing “Vision 2030 declared by BNP as nothing but a farce and deception for the people” on Wednesday.
The general secretary also termed Vision 2030 as an “inflated balloon” which will shrink in the days to come.
“Actually, the vision of BNP is to establish ‘Hawa Bhaban’ as an alternative ‘power house’ for corruption and the embezzlement of orphanage money,” he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia outlined her party's Vision 2030, pledging to bring constitutional reforms to create a balance of power. In a media briefing at the Westin Dhaka hotel, she said the prime minister's near absolute executive power has resulted in a “dictatorship.”
“The BNP is of the opinion that the people of Bangladesh have been dispossessed of the ownership of the state that they had created through the great liberation war.
The BNP want to hand over this lost ownership back to people.”
