He said the home minister informed him that BNP were granted permission for the rally

Update : 24 Nov 2019, 03:08 PM

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has been permitted to hold rally in front of its central office in Dhaka's Naya Paltan.

He made the statement while handing over buses donated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to different educational institutions at the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) Motijheel depot around 11:30am on Sunday.

Obaidul Quader, also Awami League general secretary, said: "I spoke to the home minister this morning. He informed me that BNP has been granted permission to hold a rally in front of its central office."

BNP activists wanted to hold the rally to demand the release of Khaleda Zia, in front of the party's Naya Paltan central office on November 23, but did not get permission to do so.

Therefore, they moved the date to Sunday, an official press release from the party said, stating that the rally will be held either in front of the central office or the National Press Club.

Quader said: "BNP is a failed party, whose chairperson is in jail. They were unable to hold even one rally or procession for their chairperson.”

"The party has been having inner conflicts as activists are questioning its leadership. Many BNP leaders also said they could not hold any programs to demand Khaleda's release. Now, they are spreading anti-government propaganda to build up enthusiasm among its activists."

The senior Awami League leader added that they have no control over BNP's propaganda.
