BNP has alleged the government of plundering public money and importing ineffective insecticide to kill mosquito.
“Bangladesh has long been facing dengue problem. Why have not the government taken preventive measures before the monsoon? They have imported ineffective mosquito-killing medicines and plundered crores,” alleged BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The two city corporations failed to exterminate mosquitoes “due to corruption in procuring insecticide” that has led to a serious outbreak of dengue fever, he said while speaking at a rally in front of BNP’s Naya Paltan central office on Friday.
Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal brought out the rally to raise awareness among people about dengue prevention and demanding the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Rizvi said: “People are suffering. They are rushing to hospitals and dying of dengue, and the two mayors are making unguarded remarks instead of taking effective steps,” he added.
The BNP leader said, the government is also demonstrating an irresponsible attitude in tackling the crisis.
“The prime minister has been staying in London and the health minister went to Malaysia ignoring the crisis,” he added.
He also criticized the government for keeping Khaleda in jail for over 18 months in what he claimed were alleged false and fabricated cases.
Rizvi demanded the government to immediately release Khaleda and ensure her proper treatment.
