Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital authorities have said that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s health condition has improved since she was admitted there.

BSMMU Director Brig Gen AK Mahbubul Hoque informed the media about Khaleda’s condition at a briefing, held at the hospital on Thursday.

“The BNP chairperson’s health is improving fast as she is having her medicines on time,” the BSMMU director said.

Khaleda, 73, was taken to BSMMU on Monday afternoon from the old central jail at Nazimuddin Road.

She is admitted to cabin 621 of the hospital. A medical board has been formed for her.

The director also said that the former prime minister is suffering from arthritis, diabetes and joint pains.

“She is taking medicines as prescribed by the medical board. Diabetes cannot be controlled in a day, eventually it will be under control,” Brig Gen Mahbubul added.

The director also revealed that the BNP chairperson is having proper sleep now.

A five-member medical board, led by Prof Zilan Miah Sarker of Internal Medicine Department, is overseeing Khaleda’s treatment.

Earlier, the High Court issued an order to form a medical broad for the BNP chief.
