Update : 07 Mar 2019, 02:13 PM

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader's life support has been removed, and his heart is working normally.

Dr Abu Nasar Rizvi, neurologist and director of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical Hospital (BSMMU), stated this in a hotel lobby, on Thursday afternoon.

He was quoting Dr Dr Koh Siam Soon Philip, senior consultant cardiologist and head of the five-member medical team working on Obaidul—the road, transport and bridges minister—at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, in Singapore.

"His [Obaidul's] an intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) machine has been lifted," Dr Rizvi, also the coordinator of Obaidul's medical team, said. "His heart is functioning normally now.

"The minister's kidney is also in a much better state than before," said Dr Rizvi. "He is responding to the doctors, and he is being administered fewer sedatives."

Obaidul's blood infection has also come under control, thus improving his overall physical condition, Dr Rizvi added.

Earlier, Dr Philip briefed reporters about Obaidul's medical condition for the third consecutive day. Obaidul's wife Begum Isratunnesa Quader, MP Sheikh Helaluddin,  Bangladeshi High Commissioner to Singapore Mustafizur Rahman, and Dr Abu Nasar Rizvi were present during the briefing.

Later, Dr Rizvi talked about Obaidul's condition in the hotel lobby.

Dr Philip will brief the press with further updates on Obaidul's condition at 4pm on Friday.

On Tuesday, the medical board under Dr Philip considered conducting bypass surgery on Obaidul, after extensively examining his condition.

Obaidul Quader was admitted to the Coronary Care Unit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Sunday, following breathing complications.

Later, doctors found three blockages in his coronary arteries following an angiogram.

On Monday, he was flow to Singapore for better treatment following the advice of renowned Indian cardiologist Dr Devi Shetty.
