Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has alleged that the BNP would oppose any drive launched by the government against militants since they patronise these religious extremists.
“The BNP is envious as the government has been fighting militancy successfully,” Quader told reporters after paying tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Dhanmondi Friday morning.
Quader's stated the above in response to a recent allegation by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir that the government was using militancy issue only to meet their political pursuits.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said: “Militancy a political evil, and it will be fought politically.”
He also said that the Awami League was preparing for a magnificent celebration of the 100th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu in 2020.
