BNP: Govt playing ‘nasty game’ with Khaleda’s life

Rizvi came up with the allegation at a press conference at BNP's Nayapaltan central officeon Thursday

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has blamed the government for playing a ‘nasty game’ with Khaleda’s life by shifting her to jail instead of continuing her treatment.

It is not only an inhuman act but also the government's a horrifying plot. It has also kept continuing arresting the party leaders and activists despite her assurance during the talks with the Oikya Front leaders that no more new cases would be filed, Rizvi said.

Rizvi came up with the allegation at a press conference at BNP's Nayapaltan central office on Thursday, reports UNB.

"The government is playing a nasty game over Khaleda Zia's life. The initiative for sending her to jail when she is undergoing medical tests to begin her treatment is not only an inhuman act, but also the government's a horrifying plot,” said BNP leader.

Syed Atiqul Haq, under whom Khaleda had been receiving treatment, did not issue her 'discharge certificate' while the medical board chairman Prof Abdul Jalil Chowdhury is now abroad. The government's plot for putting Begum Zia's life at stake and crippling her forever without giving her treatment is the manifestation of the government's disgusting mentality.’It has snatched her right to get treatment,he added.

The BNP leader said the government has indulged in a brutal game of revenge with Khaleda Zia to force the opposition to join the staged-managed election.

The BNP leader warned that people will resist any plot to endanger Khaleda's life.

Khaleda Zia was taken to a makeshift court at the old Central Jail from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Thursday and produced her before it for hearing on the Niko graft case.

2,200 arrested despite PM’s assurance

More than 2,200 leaders and activists were arrested over the last three days centring Oikya Front's Tuesday's Suhrawardy Udyan rally, the leader alleged.

He also presented a list of their party's arrested leaders and activists across the country, including the capital.

Rizvi questioned whether the talks with the Oikya Front leaders was a trap of deception as opposition leaders and activists are being arrested widely after the Prime Minister's commitment of not doing so.

The BNP leader strongly protested and condemned the arrest and demanded their immediate release.

Jatiya Oikya Front, led by Dr Kamal Hossain, staged a public rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Tuesday to push for its seven-point demand aiming to hold a fair and participatory neutral election.
