The coordinator of the recently formed political alliance Ganatantrik Bam Oikya has distanced his movement from the Jatiya Oikya Front, another new platform which held political crisis talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday night.
Dr MA Samad said Ganatantrik Bam Oikya was formed by seven political parties all determined to fight against the “exploitation of the rights of workers, farmers, students, and the common people by the mainstream parties”.
"Our agenda is to create a movement against these oppressors," Dr Samad said at a press briefing at Comrade Nirmol Sen Auditorium situated in Topkhana Road in Dhaka on Monday.
Dr Samad dismissed as “fabricated” the comments made by Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) leader ASM Abdur Rab on October 31 that the party is affiliated.
"Our party does not associate with the Jatiya Oikya Front," he said. "None of the leaders of the seven parties were present when Rab revealed to the media about our alleged association with the front."
Dr Samad said associating with an alliance made up by Dr Kamal Hossain, Mahmudur Rahman Manna and Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was "out of the question" for Ganatantrik Bam Oikya.
"This alliance led by Dr Kamal is trying to destroy the politics of workers and farmers by fabricating information," he said.
Jatiya Oikya Front was formed by eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain on October 13 with a goal of “restoring democracy” and ensuring free and fair voting in the 11th general election.
It comprises Dr Kamal’s Gono Forum in partnership with BNP, ASM Abdur Rab-led Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) and Mahmudur Rahman Manna-led Nagorik Oikya.
