As part of its countrywide program, BNP leaders and activists have started a six-hour mass hunger strike in Dhaka— protesting the conviction of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
The protest began at Mahanagar Natya Mancha around 10am on Thursday, which should continue until 4pm, reports UNB.
Hundreds of BNP leaders and activists joined the program amid strict police vigilance.
The party's senior leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, are scheduled to address the protest.
Additionally, the leaders of other political parties, pro-BNP intellectuals, and professionals are expected to convey their solidarity with the protest.
Similar protests are being observed in other districts and metropolitan cities.
On Wednesday, the party formed human chains in the capital, and other regions of Bangladesh, and they staged protests on Tuesday.
BNP senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced a three-day countrywide protest on Monday, including the formation of human chains, to protest the sentence of Khaleda Zia in the graft case.
On Monday, a Dhaka court sentenced BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, and three others, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment, each, in the graft case.
