BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has undergone some medical tests at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital in Dhaka.

Khaleda, who has been kept in a cabin on the sixth floor of the hospital since early October, was taken to the ground floor for the tests on Wednesday morning, said the BNP chief’s press wing official Shamsuddin Didar.

As part of regular health check-up, doctors conducted chest, lung tests and a CT scan, Brig Gen Abdullah-Al-Harun, director of BSMMU Hospital, later told reporters.

Later, she was brought back to her cabin around 2:15pm.

On October 6, the BNP chief was admitted to the hospital after prison authorities shifted her there from the old Dhaka central jail for better treatment in response to a court order.

On October 4, the High Court had directed the government to immediately admit her to BSMMU Hospital and form a five-member medical board afresh for her treatment.

The three-time former prime minister has been in prison at the city’s Nazimuddin Road since she was sentenced to five years' imprisonment for the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8.

On September 16, another government-formed medical board had suggested admitting Khaleda to a hospital like BSMMU, although, during medical tests, they did not find that she suffered from a serious illness.

On April 7, Khaleda also underwent some medical tests at BSMMU Hospital because of her illness.

BNP has long been demanding their party chief be moved to Gulshan’s United Hospital for better treatment. They claim the conditions of her left hand and leg are gradually worsening.
