Jatiya Oikya Front did not get permission to hold a rally in Sylhet city on October 23 on security ground.
Oikya Front sources said Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) on Thursday informed the front leaders over the phone about the denial of permission to hold a rally in the city.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Selim Miah, said, “Permission for the rally was not granted on security grounds.”
The police official, however, did not clarify the matter further.
On Wednesday, a five-member team of Sylhet unit Bangladesh Nationalist Party, a component of the newly formed alliance, met SMP Commissioner Golam Kibria and submitted an application seeking permission for a rally in the Bandarbazar area of the city.
“Police did not show any specific reason for its denial of permission to hold the rally,” Ali Ahmed, general secretary of Sylhet district unit of BNP said in the afternoon.
He also said he would talk to his central leaders in this regard.
Earlier on Tuesday, Jatiya Oikya Front announced kicking off its program by holding a rally in Sylhet city on October 23 to garner public support in favour of its 7-point demand for holding a credible parliamentary election.
