Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday urged protesting students not to be provoked by BNP.
“After failing in the quota reform demos, the BNP and associated bodies are depending on the students and they want to provoke them,” he told reporters after a joint meeting between the Awami League Presidium and the party’s Dhaka north and south units, at the Awami League office.
Obaidul added that the government had accepted all nine demands of the protesting students, and urged them to return home and to their studies, reports BSS.
“We are seeking cooperation from the heads of all education institutions, members of the governing bodies, and guardians, to bring discipline back on the roads,” he said.
The Awami Leaguegeneral secretaryalso asked party leaders and activists to have patience and face the present situation with caution.
He said a draft act to ensure safety and discipline on roads would be finalized at the cabinet meeting on Monday, August 6, and it would be placed in the next parliament session for enactment.
He added that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would look into the students’ demands herself.
AL Joint General Secretaries Mahabub-Ul Alam Hanif, DrDipuMoni and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Awami League leaders AFM BahauddinNasim, Habibur Rahman Siraj, Akhtaruzzaman, and Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor SayeedKhokon were among those in attendance at the meeting.
