BNP Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Saturday questioned the motives behind Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s “repeated” India trips.
Khandaker Mosharraf was speaking at a program organized by Bangladesh Jatiya Dal at the National Press Club where he alleged the government of failing to sign the Teesta water-sharing deal because it was not elected with people’s votes.
He said: “The prime minister is visiting India just like many of her past visits when people’s hopes to resolve the problem over the Teesta water-sharing problem. But the Teesta issue is not even in the agenda.
He also said there are various speculations among people about Sheikh Hasina’s repeated India tours.
The program demanded the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and other political prisoners.
Mosharraf, a BNP standing committee member, said, “The current government won’t be able to resolve any national and bilateral problem as it is not elected by the people.”
He said BNP will resolve the Teesta water-sharing issue and other outstanding problems with India after forming the government with people’s support at the next general election.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went to West Bengal on Friday morning on a two-day visit at the invitation of her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi. She is scheduled to return home Saturday night.
