“The election will not wait for anyone. It will be held in due time,” said the road transport minister while inaugurating the beautification works on Dhaka Airport road on Thursday.
The senior Awami League leader made the remarks a day after BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir warned that there would be no election in the country if Khaleda was sent to jail after conviction in “false cases.”
Two graft cases – Zia Orphanage Trust case and Zia Charitable Trust case – against Khaleda are currently in the final stage. The former premier has already given her statement in the Zia Orphanage Trust case before the court of Dhaka’s Third Special Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar.
She pleaded not guilty in both cases, terming them politically motivated.
The deposition of Khaleda in the Zia Charitable Trust case has remained incomplete.
The court on Thursday deferred the hearing in both the cases until February 26 in response to a time petition filed by Khaleda’s counsel Sanaullah Mia.
