Tarique Rahman, acting chairperson for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, who has been residing in London for the past 10 years, appears to have registered a private firm in the United Kingdom as a British citizen.
The unearthed data adds more fuel to the fire over Tarique’s citizenship, which seems to be a critical question as the government insists Tarique is no longer a citizen of Bangladesh while BNP maintains otherwise.
According to the Companies House website - the UK regulator of limited companies – White and Blue Consultants Limited, a PR and communications firm, was registered with the UK regulatory body in 2015.

Tarique, as director of the company, listed his nationality as British when he filed the application, which was authenticated by British authorities. He is listed as owning 50% of the company. The other half is owned by his wife Zubaida Rahman. However, on June 30, 2016, Tarique amended the paperwork and listed his citizenship as Bangladeshi by birth. Tarique, who has been convicted in several cases in Bangladesh, used his London residence as the official address of the company. But no business activities of the company have been found so far.

On November 23, 2016, Tarique Rahman changed the office address. Then on June 30, 2017, Tarique gave the confirmation statement against his company.

According to Tarique’s statements in 2016, his total wealth stood at £2870 and the bank had £38 pound in its bank account. Last month, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam claimed that Tarique had surrendered his Bangladesh passport and citizenship to the British government for asylum. He maintained his argument while BNP has vehemently denied the allegations. Shahriar shared photos of Tarique’s passport in British custody on his Facebook account which was subsequently hacked and the photos removed. Later, he said that Tarique’s passport expired validity years ago and has not been renewed since.
