Candidates are busy campaigning for the upcoming Khulna City Corporation polls scheduled for May 15.
The mayoral candidates are contesting the elections under political affiliations while the councilor candidates are taking part in the polls without party lines.
The candidates have already started putting up posters along the walls of city streets. They are also interacting with voters on the streets, homes, and offices.
Awami League mayoral candidate, Talukdar Abdul Khalek, was busy campaigning in various wards throughout the day.
BNP mayoral candidate, Nazrul Islam Manju, also campaigned in many wards and distributed leaflets.
Gayeswar Chandra Roy, member of BNP standing committee and chief coordinator of the 20-party alliance’s election management committee, was seen seeking votes for Manju.
Communist Party of Bangladesh candidate, Mizanur Rahman Babu, was also busy campaigning and holding street rallies on city thoroughfares.
Meanwhile, four vigilance teams consisting of election officials and citizen representatives have been formed to monitor the activities of candidates.
“The teams will inform the returning officer if any candidate breaches the electoral code of conduct,” said Returning Officer Md Yunus Ali.
As many as five mayoral candidates, 147 councillor candidates in 31 wards, and 38 councillor candidates for 10 reserved seats, are contesting the polls on May 15.
