Acting BNP chairperson Tarique Rahman has sent State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam a legal notice for a controversial remark against him, which claims Tarique has “given up on his nationality by surrendering his passport.”
Tarique's lawyer Barrister Kaiser Kamal sent the notice on behalf of his client by snail mail, confirms the lawyer.
Tarique also sent the notice to the chief editors of Bangla dailies Kaler Kantho and Bangladesh Pratidin, Imdadul Haq Milon and Naem Nizam, respectively, for publishing Shahriar Alam’s remark.
“The notice was served on behalf of Tarique asking to withdraw the statement made by Shahriar Alam which was later published by two national dailies,” said Barrister Kaiser.
According to the notice, Tarique has asked the state minister to withdraw the remark and the editors to run corrigendum in their respective dailies.
“Otherwise, we will be forced to file separate civil suit criminal cases against the trio,” said Kaiser.
Kaiser also said: “Tarique has termed State Minister Shahriar's remark as false and motivated, and he wants a public apology from him within 10 days.”
