Gazipur city corporation mayoral candidates have been issued warnings for violating the code of conduct of the Election Commission. The Election Commission on Friday sent letters warning four mayoral candidates, including of Awami League and BNP, for being in violation of EC’s code of conduct. The candidates who have been warned are Awami League nominated candidate and General Secretary of Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League, Advocate Jahangir Alam, Al Haj Hasanuddin Sarkar of BNP, Rashedul Hasan Rana of JaSaD (Inu) and independent candidate, SM Sanaullah. Returning Officer of Election Commission Rakibuddin Mandal verified the matter. He said: “Legal actions will be taken against those candidates, if they violate any rule further.” “Other than that, from Saturday, April 21, mobile court will be operated by 15 executive magistrates in various wards of the city corporation,” Rakibuddin further added. According to the Election Commission’s schedule, the city corporation voting will take place on May 15. Last date of withdrawal of the candidacy is April 23. On April 24, logos will be provided to participating mayoral candidates.
