The BNP has demanded the immediate release of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia on health grounds.
“We are worried about Khaleda Zia’s health. She should be freed immediately. We demand her unconditional release so that she can receive necessary treatment either at home or abroad,” said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday.

Addressing the government, he said: “She has secured bail, free her now.”
Fakhrul came up with the remarks at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
Replying to a question, he said they will take steps for ensuring better treatment for Khaleda – after her release from jail – either at home or abroad as per her wish.

Fakhrul’s scheduled meeting with Khaleda was postponed on Thursday as she suddenly fell sick at old Dhaka Central Jail in Nazimuddin road.
On February 8, a special Dhaka court sentenced Khaleda to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Khaleda, 73-year-old former prime minister, was taken to a special cell at the old Central Jail minutes after the verdict had been delivered.
