Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said he does not see any point in holding dialogues with the BNP regarding their participation in the next general election.
“To take part in the election is a right of BNP, not an opportunity. So, what is the point of having a dialogue in this regard? Do they want to participate in the election by receiving government’s charity?” he said.
The minister made the remarks during a press briefing at Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's Dhanmondi political office yesterday, in response to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s comments on prime minister’s speech to the nation on Friday.
Obaidul further said: “A dialogue may take place if required, but no dialogue is needed regarding the election. The election will take place as per the Constitution."
“Dialogue is a political stunt for BNP, no matter how much they reiterate it. They don’t have the mentality to sit for a dialogue,” he added.
Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the next general election will be held as per the Constitution expressing high optimism that all the parties registered with the Election Commission will take part in it upholding the country’s democratic process.
Following the prime minister’s speech, BNP organized a press conference at party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office on Friday where BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said: “The prime minister should arrange dialogues with all the political parties, if she had contemplated anything new about the election-time government.”The article was first published on Bangla Tribune
