Mintoo: Tabith will be BNP’s DNCC mayor candidate

Update : 27 Dec 2017, 11:48 PM
Tabith Awal will represent the BNP in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral by-election in February, his father and BNP Vice-Chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo said on Wednesday. The DNCC mayor’s post fell vacant on December 1 after the death of the first holder of the office, Annisul Huq. “Tabith is young and educated, and our party wants the youth to join politics,” Mintoo told reporters at the Bakshibazar temporary court premises on Wednesday. “He got many votes in the last city corporation polls even though the BNP boycotted it. That is why Tabith will be the party’s candidate this time, too.” Mintoo said he was himself too old and would not be able to work around the clock for the election. “The party wants young leadership. Tabith is young, educated and will be able to do better than me,” the party vice-chairman said. Leaders of the BNP and its allies say other names under discussion as the possible candidate include former minister Kamrul Islam, Bangladesh Jatiya Party Chairman Andalib Rahman Partho, and Nagarik Oikya convenor Mahmudur Rahman Manna. This article was first published on Bangla Tribune
