He also asked: “Why are they so afraid of BNP? Why are you talking about BNP from dawn to dusk? They do not allow BNP to hold any rallies or bring out any processions. Why you have deployed police in front of the BNP central office in Naya Paltan? If the leaders and activists of the party take to the street, it will be difficult for you to resist them. Is this the reason you are so petrified?”
Fakhrul said this at a press conference in the central party office on Monday, according to a post published in their official Facebook page.
He called upon the ruling party to face them politically.
Asked about their attempt to hold a rally over the January 5 elections, Fakhrul said Awami League could hold its council, the Jatya Party of Ershad was allowed to hold a rally but BNP was denied permission for the rally.
“After January 5, 2014, we sought permission for rallies seven times, but were not allowed,” he added.
Fakhrul, however, thanked Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader for his comment, “…although BNP was too weak to forge any movement, it was not that weak in terms of supporters.”
When reporters wanted to know the outline of the ‘provisional’ government, which BNP was pitching for instead of a neutral caretaker one, he said they would talk about the details in due time.
Dr Abdul Moin Khan, BNP standing committee member, Nitai Roy Chowdhury, vice chairman, AZM Zahid Hossain, Ataur Rahman Dhali, advisor to the party, Moazzem Hossain Alal, BNP joint secretary general, Obaidul Islam, education affairs secretary, and Syed Emran Saleh Prince, orgainising secretary, were also present at the programme.
