Some leaders of ruling Awami League and its coalition partner have demanded constituting an investigation commission and trial of the actors of 1/11 political changeover in 2007.
They were addressing at the House on Sunday while taking part in the discussion on the president's speech.
The lawmakers also underscored the need for constituting commission to unmask the masterminds who tortured politicians during the emergency regime of two years started from January 2007.
“A commission should be constituted to unveil the history and to unmask the culprits of 1/11 political changeover and they should be tried,” said Health Minister Mohammad Nasim.
He said no development of the country could be thought of sans politicians. But politicians were stigmatised during the emergency period, he added.
Admitting fault by the Daily Star editor Mahfuz Anam was not enough as politicians were landed in jail for their fault.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, who led the parliamentary sub-committee to probe incidents of army repression against the teachers and students of Dhaka University during the last caretaker government, expressed dissatisfaction over unimplemented of the sub-committee’s recommendations.
He suggested constitution of a commission with a retired justice of higher judiciary to investigate all the incidents particularly of depoliticising move of the caretaker regime.
AFM Bahauddinn Nasim said those who acted as catalysts behind the military-backed interim government would be brought to justice so that none dares to commit such an incident in the country in future.
He said numerous cases were filed against politicians and they were tortured and languished in jail during the regime.
“If politicians commit mistake they land in jail and others just say sorry and get rid of the mistake,” he added.
Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu said criticizing editors does not mean that freedom of expression is being hampered.
He also said there is no political space for war criminals, fire criminals, fundamentalists, extremists, militancy.
