The BNP will celebrate its founder Ziaur Rahman’s 80th birth anniversary today [Tuesday].
The party will hoist its flag at its offices, placing wreaths and holding prayers at Zia’s graveside at Sher-e-Banglanagar.
BNP chief Khaleda Zia, the widow of the party founder, together with BNP leaders, will place wreaths at Zia’s grave around 10am today.
A blood donation and free medical camp will operate on the ground floor of the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters during the day.
Born on January 19, 1936, at Bagbari in Bogra, Zia became the country’s 7th president and formed the BNP. He Zia was a sector commander during the Liberation War in 1971 and later became chief of the army.
Zia founded the BNP on September 1, 1978. He was assassinated in an army coup in Chittagong on May 30, 1981.
