The High Court has granted a three-month bail to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three arson and vandalism cases registered with Paltan police station.
A bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Md Khashruzzaman gave the verdict on Tuesday, in line with disposing three rules in this regard.
Fakhrul's lawyer Sabir Hossain Leon told the Dhaka Tribune said the bail order has legally paved way for the release of his client.
On June 21, the HC had granted ad interim bail to the BNP leader and issued separate three rules asking the government as to why he should not be granted regular bail in the cases.
The Supreme Court on July 13 gave him six weeks’ bail on medical ground, which was extended two times.
On November 2, the Appellate Division asked him to surrender before a trial court rejecting his plea of bail extension in those cases filed with Paltan police station on January 4, 5 and 6.
It also directed the HC bench to hear and dispose of the rules in two weeks.
Following day, the Metropolitan Magistrate concerned had sent Fakhrul to jail on his surrender.
