The BNP has said the prime minister's statement that BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami have links in the recent killings of two foreigners in Bangladesh is "unexpected".
Party's international affairs secretary Asaduzzaman Khan Ripon came up with the reaction soon after the prime minister briefed media on her recent trip to UN in New York.
“When the incidents of two foreigners killings are on investigation level, that time ruling party chief's statement that BNP-Jamaat are linked in the incident is unexpected. In one hand she [PM] said the incident is under investigation, on the other hand blamed the opposition parties for those killings. Her such statement is painful,” Ripon said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami are involved in the recent killings of two foreigners in Bangladesh.
She made the statement while addressing the media on Sunday about the outcome of her visit to the USA to attend the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Answering to a query, Hasina said: “Both the murders have been committed in the same manner. There is obviously a reason behind it and I am sure BNP, Jamaat and the razakars have involvement in the murders.”

The acting spokesperson of the BNP said: “People do not expect such irresponsible comments from a person who is holding the charge of a responsible post. We expect responsible comments from her.”
The BNP leader added: “Primarily, IS claimed the responsibility of killings of Italian and Japanese citizens. Home Minister assured people of the country and development partners that there is no existence of IS in Bangladesh. Even after that the name of IS is coming forefront again and again. We think the matter should be investigated.”
Demanding proper investigation of those incidents, Ripon asked the government to bring the masterminds into the book.
