A local Jubo League activist has been killed and five other people have sustained bullet injuries during a clash between two factions of Awami League over joining a mourning day rally at Milpara in the district town.
The deceased was identified as Sabuj, 23, son of Mobarak of Jhalupara of the town, reports UNB.
Witnesses said a group AL men brought out a mourning rally from Milpara area around 12pm on Saturday marking the National Mourning Day.
The clash ensued when activists of another AL faction, led by expelled AL leader and former AL district general secretary Mominur Rahman Momiz, tried to join the rally.
A chase and counter- chase took place between the two groups and 3-4 round of bullets were fired during the clash, leaving five people, including Sabuj, Bidyut, 38, and Ajmal Hossain, 28, injured.
They were rushed to Kushtia 250-Bed general hospital where doctors declared Sabuj dead.
